Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to establish and maintain installation and commissioning procedures
   • Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
   • Access, interpret and apply documentation required to establish and maintain plant, equipment and infrastructure maintenance systems
   • Identify, address and establish procedures to manage potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, determine acceptable levels of risk and implement control measures according to workplace procedures
   • Ensure the integration of new and existing tools, plant, equipment and processes is planned to minimise downtime
   • Design and implement safe operating procedures and systems
   • Design and implement plant and equipment installation according to workplace procedures
   • Design and implement infrastructure construction/fabrication according to workplace procedures
   • Identify training needs of individuals and work groups, develop and implement training plans
   • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for emergency situations
2. Develop systems for the maintenance of plant and equipment
   • Develop, review and gain approval for the implementation of plant and equipment maintenance procedures and systems
   • Develop and implement operational procedures for plant and equipment usage
   • Develop and implement plant and equipment maintenance systems documentation according to workplace procedures
   • Design and implement procedures for reviewing and modifying maintenance work processes
   • Process written reporting requirements according to workplace procedures
3. Establish and maintain systems for the maintenance of worksite infrastructure
   • Develop, review and gain approval for the implementation of infrastructure maintenance procedures and systems
   • Develop and maintain operational procedures for worksite infrastructure usage according to workplace procedures
   • Develop and implement infrastructure maintenance systems documentation according to workplace procedures
   • Design and implement procedures for reviewing and modifying work processes
   • Process written reporting requirements according to workplace procedures
4. Establish and maintain systems for audit and review of maintenance system
   • Develop, implement and maintain procedures to evaluate and confirm plant, equipment and infrastructure maintenance compliance are developed and implemented
   • Ensure future plant, equipment and infrastructure systems and equipment requirements are identified, assessed and incorporated into planning processes
   • Develop and implement procedures to confirm the currency and compliance of plant, equipment and infrastructure maintenance and safety standards
   • Develop and implement systems for recording and reporting plant, equipment and infrastructure information
   • Design and implement procedures for incorporating feedback into the audit/review system
   • Design and implement procedures to confirm the currency, relevance and compliance of the training program
   • Ensure procedures for response to instances of non-compliance or other discrepancies or deficiencies are developed and implemented

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

establish and maintain plant, equipment and infrastructure maintenance systems on at least two occasions, including:

developing and obtaining approval for the maintenance policy and strategies for the organisation

ensuring operational procedures for plant and equipment usage are developed

ensuring maintenance systems documentation is developed

ensuring procedures for reviewing and modifying work processes are developed and implemented

accessing, interpreting and applying technical information

ensuring plant, equipment and infrastructure are maintained

identifying, assessing and addressing training needs

preparing training plans.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures and confirm that the work activity is compliant

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for establishing and maintaining plant, equipment and infrastructure maintenance systems

work effectively with others to establish and maintain plant, equipment and infrastructure maintenance systems in a way that meets all required outcomes

communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions.

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:
